An unknown civilization, older than any known, which was advanced enough to travel the globe drawing accurate maps. Written in the 1960s, and quite academic in places, this book presents a sequence of ancient maps. The claim in this book is that the maps are accurate in both latitude and longitude for various places if you assume they were made long ago. For example, one map of the Antarctic is accurate for the land mass before it was covered with ice. We're talking 20,000 years ago. Bare in mind that current thinking is that we only figured out longitude in the 1700s, and didn't visit Antarctica until the 1800s. Good to read with: Longitude and The Calendar. My rating: Interesting but an effort |
