Journalistic look at food in the UK.

This is a scary read, and probably best to avoid if you don't want to adjust your shipping habits. After reading this you'll be looking for local farmer-supplied food, ideally organic, and you'll never ever buy packaged salad again. Why? Aside from the unpleasant animal processing, aside from waste and pollution caused by transporting food around the word, aside from any labour issues, and aside from chemical additives, it's just that local and organic produce tastes better and be better for you. Tomatoes that smell of tomatoes and actually taste of something other than water. Apples that have flavour. Bread that isn't stuffed full of air and "treatment agents".

If you can't really be bothered to read the whole book, dip into the Afterword at the end of the book: it tells you pretty much everything you need to know.
